All about me

My name is Dr Steve McDonald

I don’t know where my passion for crafting comes from, as none of my family are interested in arts and crafts. I have been crafting since I was knee-high to an ant. I have always loved crafting and would always ask for ‘doing and making books’ when I was a child.

I find that learning and developing my crafting skills is therapeutic for me, stopping me from feeling stressed and keeping me happy. I am severely colour-blind, but I don't let that stop me, so look out for odd colour combinations in my projects.

Until recently, I worked at a UK university as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business and Law, where I taught Small/Medium Business Management and Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity. I decided to change my lifestyle and concentrate on making my passion for arts and crafts my work.

It’s great to be known as Steve the Crafter rather than Dr. McDonald, Associate Professor. I still have links as an associate fellow at my previous university, so I have the benefits of both worlds. I feel that I combine my love for crafting with my love for teaching on my channels, and I try to make my videos as informative, entertaining, and accessible as possible.

I live with my partner of 20+ years and my two dogs. All of them are very understanding when I shut myself away in my studio and spend hours crafting. I think they like it really, 😂.

My son would like to be able to draw and paint but wants to pick up a brush or a pencil and create a masterpiece on the first try. However, he is extremely supportive of me and my crafting and loves to talk about my YouTube channels and the projects I am working on or have planned.
